Session Title: Parkinson's Disease: Pathophysiology
Session Time: 1:15pm-2:45pm
Location: Hall 3FG
Objective: Determine and compare vascular risk factors between VaP and PD patients in a hospital-based sample.
Background: Most studies demonstrate that vascular risk factors are more frequent in VaP than PD patients. Nonetheless dyslipidaemia and obesity haven´t been well studied.
Methods: We analysed 50 patients (VaP: 16 and PD: 34) observed in our movement disorder outpatient department since 2015. Vascular risk factors were determined considering past medical history interview, patient hospital files and drug history. In the same visit body mass index, arterial pressure and cardiac rate were evaluated. We considered the following vascular risk factors: hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, atrial fibrillation, anticoagulation, ischemic cardiac conditions, cerebrovascular disease and obesity (BMI ≥ 30).
Results: Fifty patient were evaluated with a mean age of 72,36 years (standard deviation, SD: 9,19), 54% were male. Mean body mass index was 26,91 (SD: 3,93) in VaP patients and 27,51 (SD: 3,54) in PD patients. Using chi-squared test, VP patients had statistically more dyslipidaemia (p=. 004) than DP patients. The remainder vascular risk factors were equally distributed between the two disease groups.
Conclusions: Vascular risk factors distribution wasn´t different between VaP and PD patients in our sample, except for dyslipidaemia, which was more frequent in VaP group.
