Session Title: Rating scales
Session Time: 12:00pm-1:30pm
Location: Exhibit Hall located in Hall B, Level 2
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the SCOPA-AUT.
Background: The scales for outcomes in Parkinson’s disease-autonomic (SCOPA-AUT) questionnaire was used to assess autonomic dysfunction in patients with neurological disorders (mainly in Parkinson’s disease). The questionnaire consists of 25 items assessing the following regions: gastrointestinal, urinary, cardiovascular, thermoregulatory, pupillomotor, and sexual dysfunction. The questionnaire was translated into several languages and validity and reliability of the questionnare was demonstrated.
Methods: Sixty six patients with Parkinson’s disease and 26 healthy people who has no disease affecting autonomic nervous system were included in the study. Parkinson’s disease severity was determined by using modified Hoehn and Yahr scale. All participants filled the questionnaire. The maximum score is 69, with a score ranging per item from 0 (never) to 3 (often). The questionnaire was reapplied to the twenty patients 1 to 4 weeks later.
Results: Total questionnare scores was significantly higher in the patient group than the controls (16,9±9,4 vs 10,9±8,2 p:0,005). Total scores was significantly higher in moderate and severe stages (stage 2, 2.5, 3 and 4) than the mild stages (stage 1 and 1.5) (20,7±8,8 and 24,6±7,0 vs 12,1±7,5 respectively, p< 0.001). Test re-test reliability was good (p:0,202, correlation: 0,846).
Conclusions: Turkish version of SCOPA-AUT is a valid and reliable questionnaire to evaluate autonomic function in patients with Parkinson’s disease.
