Objective: We present our experience of Stimview technology in the neurostimulation of 5 patients with Parkinson´s disease (PD).
Background: It is common to make adjustments in stimulation parameters after deep brain stimulation (DBS) in PD patients to improve parkinsonian symptoms and reduce adverse effects associated with DBS. These settings usually require long query times (not less than 30 minutes) and several subsequent revisions until the desired parameters are reached.
Method: Five patients with PD treated with subthalamic nucleus DBS were included. Stimview technology was used in the first activation in 3 patients. The other 2 patients, who were operated 2 years ago and with insufficient parkinsonian control, stimview technology was applied in one of the routine chek-ups.
Results: We obtain a more quickly clinical improvement (less than 30 minutes) without adverse effects when stimview technology was applied in the first activation of the neuroestimulator in 3 patients compared to the classic activation method. The other 2 patients, previously operated but with suboptimal motor control, had a clear improvement of parkinsonian symptoms after make un adjustment of the neurostimulator using stimview technology.
Conclusion: The stimview technology offers a greater precision in stimulating the therapeutic target in PD patients and faster than the classic method.
