Objective: The aim of the this study to evaluate different modes of (initial) clinic type of patients with PSP.
Background: Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is a sporadic, adult-onset tauopathy with one of an Parkinson-plus syndromes. PSP has different symptoms such as early postural instability with falls, supranuclear vertical gaze palsy, symmetric akinesia and rigidity. Also, it may has eight varied clinic picture in course.
Methods: Fifteen patient’s with PSP included the study. All patients evaluated according to clinical criteria for the diagnosis of PSP (NINDS-SPSP). Then, reviewed and categorized for different types by the clinician who experienced on the movement disorders.
Results: Nine of the patients were female. The mean age of patients were 65.4. Only two patients were diagnosed PSP with initial symptoms. The other were diagnosed idiopatic Parkinson’s disease by the neurologist. The patients were reviewed by the clinician. Seven patients were included PSP with Richardson’s syndrome (PSP-RS) form. Three patients were included PSP with predominant parkinsonism (PSP-P) form. The other five patients were included mixt form of PSP-RS and PSP-P.
Conclusions: This study with few patients show that PSP is required to an early and accurate diagnosis especially for the different type of clinical spectrum of PSP.
