Session Title: Epidemiology
Session Time: 1:45pm-3:15pm
Location: Exhibit Hall C
Objective: The aim of this study is identify the risk factors of Parkinson Disease related with life style (history of head trauma, tea consumption, coffee consumption, and exercise).
Background: Parkinson disease is common neurodegenerative disorder. Some life style related risk factors have been identified. The risk of Parkinson disease increase with the present of vascular risk factors.. Study about the risk factors of Parkinson disease in Indonesia are limited. We study the risk factors of Parkinson disease that related with the life style.
Methods: This study is matched case control study from Bethesda hospital Yogyakarta Indonesia. The cases are obtained from ICD X diagnoses idiopathicParkinson Disease. The age and sex matched control are obtained from the patients that visit the clinic on the same day. The data about life style related risk factors are obtained in systematic manner with standardized instruments. The data about vascular risk factors are reviewed with the medication that used and ICD X diagnosis in electronic medical record. We use 0,05 significance level, and 95% confidence interval.
Results: The subjects of this study consist of 59 cases and 118 age and sex matched controls. The diagnosis of parkinson diseases are obtained from ICD X electronic medical record that confirmed by neurologist. The data showed that the response of family history and alcohol consumption increase the risk of parkinson disease. The presence of family history increases the risk of parkinson (OR: 3,8, 95%CI: 1,32-11,06, p: 0,00095). The alcohol consumption also increases the risk of parkinson disease (OR: 13,2, 95%CI: 1,5-112,7, p: 0,001). There are no correlation between routine tea consumption (OR: 0,61, 95% CI: 0,28-1,33, p:0,24) and coffee consumption (OR: 0,62, 95% CI: 0,13-1,2, p :0,22) with the risk of parkinson disease. The diabetes mellitus related with lower risk of parkinson disease (OR: 0,18, 95% CI: 0,06-0,55, p:0,001). The history of head trauma and routine exercise do not correlated with the risk of parkinson disease.
Conclusions: This study showed that family history and alcohol consumption will increase the risk of parkinson disease. There are no correlation between tea and coffee consumption, exercise, and history of head trauma with the risk of parkinson disease.
