Session Title: Parkinson's Disease: Cognition

Objective: The study was to investigate the traits, the related factors and the impact on quality of life of cognitive impairment associated with Parkinson’s disease.
Background: Parkinson’s disease is a kind of chronic neurodegenerative diseases. Not only serious motor dysfunction, there is very prominent cognitive dysfunction which seriously affecting the quality of life of the patients.
Methods: One hundred idiopathic PD patients from Tongji Hospital were recruited. The H-Y score, the UPDRS-III Scale, the CDR, the MMSE, the MoCA, HAMA, HAMD, ESS, ADL and PDQL-39 questionnaire and the table of drug usage were used for assessment. These recorded the course of disease, age of onset, severity of illness, dopaminergic drug usage and cognitive status. Moreover, we analyzed the correlation between cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease and duration of disease, severity of illness, education and drug usage.
Results: (1) 47 cases of PD patients had cognitive impairment (PD-CI group), accounting for 47%, and 53 cases consisted of non-cognitive impairment group (PD-NCI group), which made up 53%; (2)The MoCA scores and the MMSE scores of PD-CI group were (19.93 ± 3.50) and (22.93 ± 2.90), which of PD-NCI group were (26.74 ± 1.48) and (28.74 ± 1.36), which had a statistical significance. (3)The scores which concluded visuospatial , executive ability, naming, attention and calculation ability, language, abstract thinking, delayed memory, orientation of PD-CI group were lower than the PD-NCI group. In addition, the scores of attention, calculation ability, memory latency, visuospatial and executive ability significantly were obviously lower in the PD-CI group. (4) Multiple linear regression found that cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease were negatively correlated with scores age, age of onset, UPDRS-III score, H-Y score ,HAMA score and HAMD score, while positively correlated with education time and ADL,of which education time and H-Y scores had the most significant impact on cognitive ability . However, it had no relevance of the duration of disease. (5) Comparison of activities of daily living and quality of life: The scores of UPDRS-III, ADL and PDQL-39 of PD-NCI group were higher than which of the PD-CI group, which also had statistical significance.
Conclusions: PD-CI had a significant morbidity, the major affected factors of which were the attention of the calculation ability, delayed memory, visuospatial and executive ability. Besides, PD-CI was related to the severity of the disease and the education time, which seriously affected the quality of life of patients.
