Objective: This study measure the reliability of Indonesia version wearing off (WO) questionnaire for PD patients.
Background: The wearing off phenomenon is disabling complication of Parkinson’s disease (PD). A valid and reliable of Indonesia version of Wearing off 19 (WO19) questionnaire is necessary for optimizing treatment.
Method: We performed standardized translation process for WO19 questionnaire. We consecutively recruit patients that diagnosed with PD. The subjects were asked to fulfil WO19 questionnaire. A neurologist assessed the patient and determined the presence of wearing off or not. The questionnaire results were then compared to the clinical opinion of the expert which is considered the gold standard for diagnosing wearing off. The reliability of the questionnaire was measured by Cronbach’α and Cohen’s kappa coefficient. The validity was measured by the sensitivity and the specificity of the instrument compared to the gold standard. The multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to learn the relations of associated factors and wearing off phenomenon.
Results: two patients with PD Hoehn and Yahr 2. The mean age was 60.2±5.6. The proportion of male was 62.5%. The mean disease duration was 4.5 years. The Indonesian version of the WO19 questionnaire has a good reliability (Cronbach’α = 0.67). The agreement with the expert assessment (the diagnostic accuracy) is at a substantial level (Kappa value = 0.72). The sensitivity and specificity of the questionnaire were 82% and 74% respectively.
Conclusion: Indonesia version of WO19 is a reliable and valid tool for evaluating PD patients with wearing off.
