Category: Parkinson's Disease: Non-Motor Symptoms
Objective: To study of pain syndromes in various forms of Parkinsonism.
Background: Pain can occur in the premotor stage of Parkinson’s disease, motor signs are additionally attached.
Method: The material in this study was 63 patients (39 patients with PD, 24 patients with vascular Parkinsonism and 34 patients with striatal hyperkinesia). Patients were aged 30 to 67 years (mean age 48.6±6.3 years). The duration of disease was 5.7±3.3 years. The control group consisted of 14 patients without pathology.
Results: In our study of the 51 patients with PD 39 patients had a pain syndrome (76.5%). Pain was more observed with a tremor form PD. In the first stages of the disease 14 (35.8%) patients had pain, and in the lower stages 25 (64.1%) patients experienced pain not only in the shoulder area but also in the lower limbs. Of the 39 patients with PD primary pain was observed in 26 patients (66.7%), with 24 patients of Parkinsonism syndrome primary (4,7%), secondary in 83.3%. In 28 patients (71.8%) with PD had vertebrate pain and in 8 patients (20.5%) had reflector pain. Refractory pain was mainly in 13 patients with Parkinsonism syndrome (54.2%), vertebrate pain was observed in 9 patients (37.5%).
Conclusion: Types of pain syndromes in Parkinson’s disease depend on the form and stage of the disease. Pain syndromes can be a predictor of the disease.
