Category: Rating Scales
Objective: Perform the linkage between the items of the Pre-Assessment Information Form (PAIF) of the people with Parkinson’s Disease (pPD) with the categories of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), using specifics and updated rules.
Background: The use of the PAIF is recommended to guide the physiotherapeutic assessment of pPD and linking the items of the form to ICF categories are a way of standardizing the health records of this population, which will allow comparisons between services and countries.
Method: Three evaluators who applied the ten specific rules developed and updated performed the linkage of the 23 items of the PAIF (which comprised the first question of the History of Falling Questionnaire and the 22 activities belonging to the Patient Specific Index for Parkinson’s Disease (PSI-PD) related to the domains of gait, transfers and manual activities). The level of agreement between raters was determined using the Kappa coefficient with 95% confidence interval.
Results: The agreement between the 1st and 2nd evaluators was low to medium (k=0.40-0.54) and therefore the judgment of the 3rd evaluator was necessary, which ensured the validity of the linkage. A total of 31 codes belonging to the ICF Activity and Participation (AP) domain were linked to the PAIF items. Additional concepts were used in 8 itens. The frequency of the mapped categories was 3.5% in the chapter “d2 General tasks and demand”, 77% in the chapter “d4 Mobility”, 12.5% in the chapter “d5 Self care” and 7% in the chapter “d6 Domestic life.” The categories belonging to the other chapters of the AP component, they were not linked to the PAIF.
Conclusion: The PAIF linkage process, which is a form widely disseminated around the world, is a valid proposal that has the potential to expand the use of the ICF in recording health information of pPD related to the “Activity and Participation” component. The more detailed use of the PAIF through the qualification of the ICF codes linked to it will bring benefits related to the standardization of the language, which will allow the comparability between the health information.
