Category: Parkinson’s Disease: Clinical Trials
Objective: In Algeria, few epidemiological data published on PD. The objective of this work is to study the epidemiological aspects of familial parkinson (PF) at the CHU of Blida.
Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a complex neurodegenerative disease characterized by slowness of movement, notched rigidity and resting tremor, of asymmetric onset, dopa responsive.
Method: This is a prospective study over a period of 12 years (2006-2018) on the recruitment of patients with PD established in the criteria for this pathology. Family cases were detected by creating a family tree showing the mode of transmission and the number of affected patients. Epidemiological data, frequency, age, sex, consanguinity were collected. The statistical analysis of the data was carried out using SPSS software in its 20th version.
Results: We collected 488 parkinsonian patients, 49 patients reported similar cases, classified as familial forms. The epidemiological data found a frequency of 10.86%, an average age of onset of 55.23 ± 13.32 years. Sex ratio was 1.22 (M/F), endogamy 26.5%, number of patients per family 2 to 5 cases. The others classified as apparently sporadic had an average age of onset of the disease of 67.45 ± 11.82 years.
Conclusion: This study on FP is the first in Algeria. A better knowledge of the epidemiological profile of PF requires multicentric work.
