Category: Rating Scales
Objective: To show the Preliminary Results of the ESDEPARK and compare them with a General Geriatric Depression Scale in a sample of patients with IPDWD.
Background: Depression is one of the most frequent and prevalent neuropsychiatric disorders in the IPDWD, affecting the family, social and individual dynamics of the subject, altering the processes of information consolidation, decision making and problem solving that impact on their basic, instrumental and advanced activities of daily living.
Method: The research work presents a cross-sectional design, with descriptive study type, the sample is formed by a group of 50 patients diagnosed with IPDWD, with a mean age of 64.85 years and with an age younger than 12 years at diagnosis. For depressive symptomatology we used the ESDEPARK (specific depression scale for Parkinson’s disease in the process of validation), Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale, to measure the cognitive phenotype we used the Scales for Outcomes in Parkinson’s Disease-Cognition SCOPA-Cog and the Parkinson’s Disease Cognitive Rating Scale PD-CRS.
Results: Preliminary results obtained by ESDEPARK indicate that patients with IPDWD present significant differences in the total score of Scopa-Cog (Rho= -,120, P= ,005), YESAVAGE (Rho= -,505; P= ,001), ESDEPARK attention (months in inverse) (Rho= -,146, P= ,001), YESAVAGE (Rho= -,040, P= ,479), ESDEPARK visuospatial functioning (Rho= -,302, P= ,001), YESAVAGE (Rho= -,230, P= .01), ESDEPARK delayed recall (Rho= -,126, P= ,040), YESAVAGE (Rho= – ,341, P= , 001), PD-CRS ESDEPARK total score (Rho= -,135, p= 028), YESAVAGE (Rho= – ,582, p= ,001), PD-CRS ESDEPARK immediate recall (Rho= -,090, p= ,016), YESAVAGE (Rho= – ,232, p= ,001), PD-CRS ESDEPARK clock order test (Rho= -,162, p=,009), YESAVAGE (Rho= -,215, p= ,001).
Conclusion: The IPDWD specific depression scale ESDEPARK in its preliminary results shows high consistency and reliability in identifying cognitive performance, associated with different levels of severity of depressive symptomatology.
