Session Title: Other
Session Time: 12:00pm-1:30pm
Location: Exhibit Hall located in Hall B, Level 2
Objective: To study characteristic of lipid levels in patients with PD.
Background: Currently, there is no clear data about the features of lipid metabolism in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Results of several studies shows that hyperlipidemia is an adverse factor in the development of this disease. At the same time, according to other authors, high level of total cholesterol(TC) increases the risk of BP in the age group under the 55.
Methods: We examined 65 patients with PD, at the age from 38 to 74, with the diseases duration of 23 ±2 month. Degree of severity of disease according to the Hoehn and Yahr scale was 1-2. As a control for comparison was examined a group of 38 patients with other movement disorders – focal dystonia, at the ages 25-66 years. The second control group consisted of 35 patients in the ages of 29-71 years, without movement disorders (tension headache -18, motor neuron disease-9, traumatic brain and spine injury-8). All patients were not tooking statins and underwent biochemical analyzes of lipids spectrum in blood -TC, triglycerides (TG), high density lipoproteins (HDL), low density lipoproteins (LDL),very low density lipoproteins(VLDL).
Results: In the group of patients with PD, results of analyzes showed: TC – 5.65±0.49 mmol/L, TG-1.62±0.3 mg/dL, HDL-1.78 ±0.7 mmol/L, LDL–4.0±0.8 mmol/L, VLDL – 0.69 ± 0.5 mmol/L. In the group of patients with FD level of TC- 5.26±0.28 mg/dL, TG-1.41±0.17 mmol /L, HDL – 1.33±0.07 mmol/L, LDL-3.9±0.6 mmol/L, VLDL – 0.64 ±0.14 mmol / L. Lipid spectrum in blood of third group patients (without movement disorders) was following: TC-5.89±0.5 mg/dL, TG-1.70±0.1 mmol/L, HDL – 1,60±0,4 mmol/L, LDL- 4,03±0,8 mmol/L,VLDL-0,80±0,7 mmol/L.
Conclusions: Results of our research shows that the mean values of TC and LDL were higher than target levels in patients with FD and in patients without MD. At the same time in the majority of patients with PD (41 patients – 63%) level of TC in the blood was within the normal ranges from 3.5 to 5.5 mmol/L and only in 13 patients (20%) exceed 6,5 mmol/L. In the same group in the half of cases-in 32 patients (49%) – low values of TG (less than 1.5 mmol/L) were marked. The ambiguity of the data we received indicates the need to further study of characteristics of lipid metabolism in patients with PD.
