Session Title: Parkinson's Disease: Non-Motor Symptoms
Session Time: 1:45pm-3:15pm
Location: Exhibit Hall C
Objective: Assessment of autonomic dysfunction in patients with Parkinson’s disease and further comparison with patients without autonomic symptoms
Background: A frequent disabling complication of Parkinson’s disease is autonomic dysfunctions that affect the quality of life and daily activities.
Methods: Author examined 78 patients with Parkinson’s disease (45 men and 33 women) mean age – 64, 09 ± 6.1 years. The severity of Parkinson’s disease was evaluated by UPDRS scale. Also patients conduct research of vegetative system, urological examination.
Results: According to the study 24 patients had orthostatic hypotension, impaired urination as overactive bladder syndrome were observed in 38 patients, and constipation – 63 patients. Only 9 patients had no autonomic disorders. 28 patients had a combination of two or more autonomic dysfunction. The average amount of the UPDRS scores in patients with Parkinson’s disease with the presence of autonomic dysfunction was significantly higher than that in patients without autonomic dysfunction (Table 1). The group of patients with urinary disorders had the highest average scale UPDRS – 72, 14. Patients with other autonomic dysfunction (symptomatic orthostatic hypotension, constipation) ranged from 52.21 to 55.75, in patients without autonomic disorders – only 34.06 points.
Conclusions: 1. The average total score of the UPDRS in patients with PD with the presence of autonomic dysfunction was significantly higher than that of patients without autonomic dysfunction.
2. Autonomic dysfunction is a common complication of Parkinson’s disease (88.46% of the patients).
