Objective: – Raise awareness among the various professionals in contact with patients suffering from Parkinson’s syndromes
– Optimize follow-up and support
– Avoid emergency room visits through better referrals
Background: In the CHSV d’Eaubonne area, there are more than 40 Nursing home that receive patients with Parkinsonian syndromes (MPI, PSP, MSA C and P, DCB, MCL).
In their care, the teams regularly find themselves in difficulty when faced with these profiles, and regularly refer them to the emergency department, which maintains a geriatric pressure on the flow of patients passing through the emergency department.
In order to improve referrals, we decided to take stock of the needs of our teams, so as to gain a better understanding of the problems they encounter.
Method: This questionnaire was submitted to 10 Nursing home, in liaison with the various professionals working in this type of structure (AS, IDE, IDEC, coordinating doctor).
The main proportion are care assistants with little theoretical knowledge of this disease.
Nurses and nurse coordinators can help to improve support for Parkinson’s patients.
Doctors, for their part, can act as referrers for better guidance, thanks to their clinical expertise.
Results: The results show a significant lack of knowledge in nursing home teams. Over 80% are seeking training.
Whatever the subject, nursing assistants are poorly trained in this type of care.
Nurses have more knowledge, but require specific training, which shows a fairly clear need.
Conclusion: If a majority of participants respond favorably to their lack of notions about Parkinson’s.
The needs are varied and immense, particularly in terms of pathology, lifelong support, but also per os treatments and continuous devices.
