Objective: To describe the phenomenon of pain disorder in Parkinson Disease patients.

Background: Pain is one of the most common non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and have a significant contribution in impairment of patients quality of life. Epidemiology study  about pain characteristics of PD in Indonesia are  limited.

Method: Cross sectional study in PD patients in Bethesda Hospital in Yogyakarta who fulfilled the eligibility criteria. The characteristics of pain in PD patients was assessed based on Indonesian version of King Parkinson Disease Pain Scale (KPPS) questionnaire.

Results: Sixty two PD patients were assessed. The most common severity level of disease was stage 3 on Hoehn and Yahr scale (64.5%). Pain was present in over 44 patients (70.96%), consisted of 26 male (59.1%) and 18 female (40.9%). All patients have received routine PD medications . The most common types of pain in PD based on KPPS in sequence were musculoskeletal pain (45.2%). The other pain types were  nocturnal pain (25.8%), radicular pain (25.8%), discoloration, edema/swelling (19.4%), chronic pain (16.1%), fluctuation-related pain (6.5%), and orofacial pain (16,1 %).

Conclusion: Pain is common non motor symptoms. The most common type of pain in PD patients was musculoskeletal pain.
