Session Title: Parkinson's disease: Non-motor symptoms
Session Time: 12:30pm-2:00pm
Location: Exhibit Hall located in Hall B, Level 2
Objective: To clarify the relationship between non-motor symptoms and memory disorder in 160 cases with PD without cognitive decline in our out-patients clinic.
Background: Both olfactory dysfunction and depression are important symptoms for premotor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease (PD). There are few reports about the relation between these non-motor symptoms and cognitive impairment. However, relationship between memory disorder and them are not fully understood.
Methods: Before starting this study, we had permission for this study by the ethical approval from our hospital. We diagnosed PD according to the British brain bank criteria, with all steps. Global situation of PD are checked by UPDRS. Used test battery were RBMT for memory function, MMSE and WAIS-III for cognition, SDS and HAMD for depression, T and T test for olfaction. T and T test is a Japanese version olfaction test, which consists of perception of olfaction and detection (cognition) of it. Results were analyzed by coefficient of correlation.
Results: In this study, hyposmia was not significantly associated with cognitive impairment. There are positively correlated with hyposmia and memory disorder.
Conclusions: Hyposmia may be a predector of memory disorder with PD.
