Objective: Expose the percentage of patients with hallucinations in studying group of Parkinson’s disease patients in Uzbekistan.

Background: Uzbekistan has 35 million population, largest in the region, but the diversity of the medications and treatment options are too low. In addition, there is huge stigma of visiting psychiatrist and telling to neurologist and neurosurgeon that he has mental problems.

Method: 73 Patients with Parkinson’s disease was examined and diagnosis confirmed by single specialist.
Average age of patients – 64,3. Sex: Male – 33 (46%), Female – 40 (54%).  Average Anamnesis –  7,1 years  (1-26 years ).
10 Patients (13,6%) had a visual hallucinations. Female 6 (60%) Male 4 (40 %). Average anamnesis of Parkinson’s disease 7,4 years (5,3 – 9,7years). Average length of hallucinations is 3,8 years (2,1-5,2 years).
3 patients (30%) were on Quetiapine 25-50 mg a day. 7 had no medication on hallucinations, 4 patients has been hiding from caregivers that they had a hallucinations.  None of the 10 patients has been seeing psychiatrist. Recommendations:  Quetiapine 12,5 mg starting dosage, increasing to 75 mg. 3 patients had not sufficient effect and switched to Clozepine 25 mg increasing to 75 mg.

Results: 4 month follow up showed reducing of hallucinations in all 10 patients by starting or increasing a dosage.

Conclusion: The results of this study showed that 13,6% of patients had a hallucinations, but by using 2 type of medications they could be treated. Another interesting part is patient in Central Asia and particular in Uzbekistan afraid of stigma of being mentally unhealthy, this is the reason they did not tell about hallucinations and not visited psychiatrist. We hope this situation will change in future.
