Objective: To conduct the validity and reliability study of the Turkish version of nineteen-item wearing-off (WO19)questionnaire.

Background: Wearing-off(WO)is probably the most frequent motor complication of Parkinson’s Disease(PD) treatment and it may sometimes be difficult to recognize it on routine clinical setting, for the fluctuating symptom maybe motor as well as non-motor and may occur as unexpected symptoms.

Methods: After translation and back translation procedure, we studied 199 patients with PD who were older than 18, had been on levodopa for at least two weeks and signed the consent form. Fifty-four patients whose treatments were not changed evaluated two weeks later again to test interrater reliability.A YES answer to at least one of 19 questions accepted as WO.

Results: While WO was identified in 154 (77.4%) of the patients, no WO was observed among 45 (22.6%) patients. The Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient was found 0.842 and questionnaire’s internal consistency for 199 patients was accepted to be sufficient, that is, it had content validity. For the 54 patients evaluated 2 weeks later concordance rate was %80 in terms of presence or absence of WO. p values for all 19 items’Intraclass Correlation Coefficientswere smaller than 0,05. These analyses indicated acceptable inter-rater reliability.

Conclusions: The Turkish version of WO-19 is valid and reliable to assess and identify WO for Turkish-speaking PD patients.
