Objective: This study was designed to explore the impact of various predictive factors on the quality of life (QOL) of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

Background: PD is a progressive disorder that decreases the QOL of those affected. However, data concerning the QOL of patients with PD in Indonesia are scarce.

Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted on 31 PD patients from Bethesda Hospital, Yogyakarta, Indonesia between 16 January 2018 and 6 March 2018. Demographic, clinical, and treatment data were collected. Disease severity was assessed using the Hoehn and Yahr scale. QOL was measured using the Short Form 8 (SF-8) Health Survey Standard Indonesia.

Results: The QOL of patients with PD was significantly lower in the following aspects: role physical (29.59+6.575) in patients aged 50-60 years, physical component score (36.86+8.989) in patients with the Hoehn and Yahr scale stage 3, mental component score in female patients (47.18+13.806) and patients with duration of PD < 2 years (50.41+11.960). Among comorbidities, significant decrement was shown in physical functioning (33.78+6.798) and mental health (26.51+7.226) in patients with diabetes and dyslipidemia, respectively.

Conclusions: This study demonstrated that female, age, disease severity, disease duration and the presence of comorbidities significantly influence the QOL in patients with PD.
