Objective: To study the possibility of using dopaminergic medicines for the treatment of Bell`s paralysis in acute period.

Background: In previous reports we conjectured that by influencing on the extrapyramidal pathways we may reach the restoration of skeletal muscles paresis.

Methods: 32 patients with Bell`s paralysis and dysfunction of 4-5 degree by House-Brackmann scale were under our observation in the Department of Neurology of TMA at January and February 2017. The patients were divided into 2 groups so as to ensure comparability of the obtained results: (1) 15 patients took only standard treatment with antivirals, steroids, B-group vitamins, (2)17 patients took amantadine 200 mg/day and levodopa 125 mg/day as addition to standard treatment. Recheck by HBS performed after 1 week from the therapies start.

Results: The decrease of nerve dysfunction degree (shift to 2nd degree by the House-Brackmann scale) amounted to 26.7%(4), 64.7%(11) respectively to first and second monitoring groups.

Conclusions: The improvement of facial paralysis under the treatment by amantadine and levodopa as addition to standard treatment is significantly higher than only under standard treatment (p <0.01). Probably, influence on extrapyramidal system leads to palliating of pyramidal insufficiency. Further researches need.
